insulation (Polyimide) on bare wire and thermocouple tip Can be used to measure the surface temperature where a low voltage may be present, however problems may occur at voltages approaching 300V The insulated wire and tip can also protect the thermocouple in a corrosive liquid / environment. (P) +1000 yen
insulation on bare wire only For applications where the bare wire could cause a short circuit, for example, if you are attaching the thermocouple tip with solder, we would recommend this option. (EP) +2000 yen
capton (polyimide) tape Reinforcement Reinforcing of connection between original wire and fine wire
fine thermocouple@capton tape reinforcement

NEW PATENTED one side black body this new patented design for Sheet Thermocouples will absorb Infra Red energy giving faster response times and greater accuracy photo (B) +1000 yen
bare wire length Usually 10mm,  it is possible to manufacture according to your specific request between 5mm-23mm. However, it should be noted that a 13 micron wire will have a maximum length of 15 mm (bare length mm) Free of charge.
packing sheet The thermocouples are usually dispatched in cardboard to reduce any static build up, we can also offer acrylic resin sheet free of charge, for clean room applications. Please specify this when ordering. (acrylic sheet) Free of charge.

How to choose your thermocouple

Tip shape Fine thermocouple The fine Thermocouple tip is ideally suited to temperature measurement of very small components, with a fast response time and high accuracy. The tip can be fixed using an Ag past, and is therefore recommended as an OEM product not as a reusable Thermocouple. Standard tip dia is 25 Microns with 13 micron dia for special applications.
Sheet thermocouple

The sheet thermocouple is designed to measure surface temperature, it can offer high strength, high accuracy and a fast response time.  We would recommend using single sided, black capton tape to secure the thermocouple as this will absorb the Infra-red energy. photo

Fine and Sheet thermocouple Rolling milled fine thermocouple 25 or 50 micron.
25micron dia. 10 micron thick 50micron dia. 20 micron thick
Quick response and high accuracy.
Recommended for applications such as silicon wafer.
Multi purpose thermocouple

Available with 100 or 200 micron wire, this thermocouple has a wire shaped tip not a ball as used in some thermocouples. This gives a faster response time and greater accuracy.  This is a very robust thermocouple, recommended for applications were the temperature is not changing rapidly, the thermocouple tip can be fixed using solder or ceramic bonding into the substrate being measured.

Insulation Glass

Glass insulation will operate at a constant temperature not exceeding 250 °C temperatures up to 300°C would be acceptable only for short periods of time. Glass insulation is very flexible, however, it may not be suited to clean room applications. Detail

Teflon Maximum operating temperature for Teflon is 200°C   we would recommend Teflon for measuring the temperature of liquids, chemicals, and any application where it would be open to the outdoor elements. Detail
Ceramic

Suitable for applications where high temperatures are likely, for example ovens, furnaces, rocket / jet engine exhaust ports etc.  However this material would not be suitable for any applications involving water, as the ceramic bond will dissolve in water  Detail

Insulated wire diameter. 200micron 200 micron wire would be used for mechanical strength is a concern and would be recommended for any application where the cable would be longer than 2 meters, to minimise interference by external electromagnetic wave. Detail
100micron

For example a glass insulated 100 micron wire would have very good properties for bending around a small radius however; it would be more susceptible to external interference from any electromagnetic waves.                                         Not recommended for cable lengths exceeding 2 meters  Detail

Option Solder coat Tip This type of thermocouple is easy to attach in applications where a solder joint is possible.
one side black body Sheet thermocouples can be attached to the substrate by capton tape, we recommend our one sided black body thermocouple, fitted with capton tape, the black body can absorb the infra red energy resulting in a faster response time.  photo
Connector For easy connection to data logger or monitoring equipment
Insulation on bare wire& tip

Can be used to measure the surface temperature where a low voltage may be present. The insulated wire and tip can also protect the thermocouple in a corrosive liquid / environment. The insulated wire will ensure that you are measuring the temperature at the tip and not along the wire length. Detail  The operating temperature for the insulation is 300 degrees celsius, the insulation is applied in three coats to prevent pin holes, however, this will increase the diameter as follows.  200micron will increase to 210 micron 25 micron to 28 micron and 50 micron increases to 56 micron.

Insulation on bare wire only (not on tip) For applications where the bare wire could cause a short circuit, for example, if you are attaching the thermocouple tip with solder, we would recommend this option.
Capton (polyimide) tape reinforcement Reinforce connection between original wire and fine wire
Bare wire length Usually 10mm, however it is possible to manufacture to your specific request between 5mm & 23mm without charge. But please take care, the longer the wire the more difficult it is to use.
Packing sheet The thermocouples are usually dispatched in cardboard to reduce any static build up, we can also offer acrylic resin sheet free of charge, for clean room applications. Please specify this when ordering.

* Please Note:  Heat Resistance of Ceramic insulation is approximately 1000degree C, however, 320 micron dia. wire will protrude  from ceramic insulation at a temperature of 600degree Celsius due to CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) mismatch between almel and chromel. we would therefore recommend that you choose 200micron dia wire, enabling measurement of higher temperatures.

Although we maintain strict quality control, during the manufacture of our products, some of the dimensions listed may vary.
